Being a Food photographer in London on a motorbike.
I asked my client, where can I leave my motor bike?
My client: I am not sure.
Me: There is no motorbike parking in the street and the road further down is blocked by climate change protesters and police.
My client: you know what, as the restaurant is closed, see if you can bring your bike into the restaurant. Otherwise you will get a ticket.
Me: But there are the protests, it’s looking quite serous out there. I doubt I would get a ticket at the moment.
My client: If the building was on fire, and you parked there to saves lives, they would still write you a ticket!
To put it simply being a food photographer in London can be a wild ride on occasion. For me this makes shooting food photography in London is one of the best places on the world. I have to admit, I kind of like the excitement and uncertainty.
Many of my restaurant photography clients are upscale establishments in the centre of London. Getting kit into the restaurants can be difficult for a photographer in a car or van. With a motorbike, it’s a much more predictable journey and I can almost always stop right outside the front door. This makes photography in London a much easier endeavour.
Being a food photographer in London there is a very high standard to meet, therefore a full array of photography kit is needed. Depending on the photo shoot, I some times need up to 3 strobes as well and backdrops, speed lights, tripod, camera bodies, lenses, etc. Not mentioned all the stands, you can image that I would need to use a van to shot food photography in London, but over the years I have gotten it town to a proper science. I can now get an entire portable studio on the back of my bike for shooting food in London.
